Alaikadal Aandava — a Tamil devotional song of Thiruchendur Murugan: a pilgrim lays his burden down where the sea meets the Vel.
A burdened devotee walks the shore of Thiruchendur, carrying the salt of his tears to the salt of the sea. Veena, sarangi, bamboo flute, ghatam and morsing carry the song from a whispered invocation to the Arohara chant of the pilgrims, until he leaves everything at Murugan's feet — "இத்தனை நாள் வீண் பயம் சுமந்தேன்" — all these days, the fear I carried was needless. Beside the salt sea, the sweet-water spring: the Naazhi Kinaru of Senthil, the Lord of the wave-tossed sea.

The roar of the sea, the shore bowing in worship. This is the ground where Senthil's Vel stood; this is the shore of Thiruchendur.
Lord of the wave-tossed sea, Murugan of Thiruchendur, bearer of the Vel, son of the Karthigai maidens, born to protect the gods and to protect humankind. Within the salt of the deep sea, are you not the spring of sweet fresh water?
Your ears heard the last great roar of Sooran; will you not hear the silent cry of my heart? The strength of your Vel and your grace are mine to claim. Apart from your shore I have no other refuge. Kandha, Kadamba, I have come searching for you.
Your beauty fills the whole world and your grace flows through the whole heart. However many waves strike, your protection stands unmoved. My mind seeks you without rest, like a wave running towards the Lord's shore. There is no other shore but you. You are the one I lean on, the truth you taught the world.
The pilgrims cry Arohara to Murugan of victory, the Lord of Senthil, the Lord of the sea, Murugan of the Vel of wisdom. You who conquered Sooran and stood upon the waves, where is refuge except at your holy feet? I have laid all my burdens on your shore, held your hands, understood you, and known the truth: all these days I carried a fear that was needless.
The song closes with the chant again and a quiet arrival. I have reached the shore. Among the waves that seek you, I too am one drop.
